Welcome back Portishead

After too long an absence, Portishead returns with their first release in a decade. “Third” is officially released on April 29th. I found this video on YouTube via Signal vs. Noise and had to re-post. While songs like Mysterons and Undenied have been timeless songs of theirs, I’m excited at the prospect of this being their first release since I started listening to them.

Unfortunately for some reason embedding the video is disabled, so you’ll have to click here to go watch it…

Blacktree

My friend Joel told me about these fun tools for Mac by Blacktree. I went and grabbed a couple of them and enjoy them thoroughly. The first is called Quicksilver. It’s an amazing keyboard shortcut which will find any file, program, website, email address, etc. as quick as you can type the characters. I set mine up so that I just hit alt+space and start typing what I’m looking for. So to find a document quickly, I don’t have to navigate through my finder window and folders. I just type the first few characters and hit enter. It opens right up.

The other is called Nocture. It puts my monitor in night mode so that it emits less light. Basically the contents of the screen are all inverted to black and white. There are controls so that other colors can be used. But for me it is nice because if I’m working late at night while sitting in bed, it keeps the bright glow to a minimum for my wife’s sake.
