Last week Ryan and I had the pleasure of shooting a new Blue Wagon Studios project with Summit Church. They are re-branding their Summit Connect efforts and gave us full creative reign on the art direction for the new video vignettes. We had the idea of creating our own lighting arrangement using lots of incandescent bulbs (the concept being the lights would be a nod to a “connect the dots” theme). We built our own setup and got some great bulbs from Lighting World here in Winter Park. With a Canon 5D and 7D both on pocket dollies the footage looks incredible. I’m in the process of editing for the next week, but here are some still pics from the day.

Do It Yourself Camera Dolly
We decided to build our own heavy duty skater dolly for use with larger equipment like the RED (and the bulky tripod that goes with it). Our smaller slider works great for short distances and with lighter equipment like the Canon 5D. But if we need to go far, it’s going to require longer legs.
After a trip to the Orlando skate park for some wheels and bearings, I was able to hit up Lowe’s for the rest of the equipment. All things told, it cost around $250 for all the supplies (the wheels and bearings being the most expensive part).
While I cut, hacked and drilled, Ryan set up the 5D on the smaller dolly and got some fun footage of the building process. Then we switched at the end while he operated the RED camera on the completed dolly. Enjoy.

Documenteaparty
Just finished editing this for a political group. We shot it in September but it’s been sitting on the back burner for a while. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

Probably the best music video I’ve seen
Not because of effects, technology, or anything crazy. I think it’s just incredibly original, well executed and a good narrative. The song is a lot of fun too. Thoroughly enjoy it. It’s Love Deluxe by Cinnamon Chasers. Directed by Saman Keshavarz.

Filming the making of a camera
Really simple, but very cool. I love the look of the video. I love that Theo took the time to document Kiel crafting the thing from scratch. Kiel actually made it into a functional pinhole camera and took photos with it. Good stuff.

Great fan video by Gabe Askew
I love when people do stuff unofficially just because they can and because they’re really good at it. This is a music video that Gabe Askew did for the song “Two Weeks” by Grizzly Bear. Very talented animator and visual artist. I’m a big fan. Nice work Gabe-

Old Fashioned, New School

Brand New School has given their website a face down since last I saw it. I’m diggin the black and white simplicity. These guys and gals have got some serious names in their book. Check out this little ditty they did for a eyeglass outfit. It’s similar to the whole Jimmy Neutron feel, but much more growed up.
